how can i simplify this expression: x+4-5x-2

The x and the -5x are like terms since the both have "x" in them. So are the 4 and the -2 since they are both integers. So do [latex]x-5x=-4x[/latex] and then [latex]4-2=2[/latex]. Put those together and you get -4x+2.
