Gregor Mendel is a Central European Monk who studied genetics through plants. He is greatly known as the founder of modern science genetics. In his various experiments, Mendel cross-pollinated pea plants because the peas have characteristics that have two forms.  This means that pea plants have both male and female reproductive systems. They have the capacity to self-pollinate or cross-pollinate with other plants and as a result, Mendel discovered the nature of genetic inheritance. At that time, Mendel debunked the famous “blending theory” commonly believed by scientists. This is a theory in biology where scientists believed that through time traits of organisms blend from generation to generation to create new organisms.
